Glory to the Legion
Glory to the Legion ⚔️
16x20 inch acrylic painting on stretched canvas
An empty candlelit stone room in the dead of night, a lonely shelter after a battle lost. Cherry blossoms allowed to blow unkept into the room and a sword on the floor an admission of defeat. One light left on in the city, a constant reminder that grief never sleeps, while two dragons chase each other through the sky symbolic of balance: where there is a victory, there is tragic loss.
A study in light values, this unique scene has been driven by inspiration from texts and music, and plays with cool and warm tone light from different directions. The piece challenges contrast in key elements to draw the eye, while maintaining much negative space.
Varnished with Liquitex in a high gloss finish and edged with Ivory black. Hanging wire installed for proper displaying.
